Long weekends are just magical, and absolutely worth celebrating. This past President’s Day weekend Justin and I took off to one of our favorite spots, Carmel Valley, which is actually where we got married. After debating back and forth if we should escape somewhere for the weekend or stay local, I received a promotional email to lock in a winter rate at the Bernardus Lodge & Spa so we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to visit. With all the excitement from the pregnancy announcement, and with Justin’s crazy work schedule, the low-key weekend (and quick two-hour drive) couldn’t have been more perfect. The on and off rain was fitting for our lazy days, and the skies cleared up just enough for us to enjoy some much-needed fresh air.
I wish I could say we had a really eventful weekend, but to be honest, when we’re in Carmel we keep is pretty simple. It’s usually leisurely mornings spent on the porch with coffee, a visit to Carmel-by-the-Sea, long lunches or dinners, and early nights with the fire-place set to drift us off to sleep.
For my fellow Californians, the rain has really been something else. I always love when it’s time for the seasons to change, and this year I’m particularly antsy for warmer spring weather. As a result of the continued cold, and my quickly growing bump, I’m all about dresses in pretty prints that are easy to move in. I spotted this Topshop dress while at Nordstrom the other week and loved the ruffle detailing. It was definitely one of those dresses that looked cute on the hanger, but even better on. Normally, I keep my skin bronzed with sunless tanner, but I’ve been avoiding it ever since I found out I was pregnant. That made this dress a total winner for its long sleeves and spring-like look. I paired the floral number with my over-the-knee boots to cover even more skin, and a leather jacket (not pictured) to mix edgy with girly. The outcome was perfect to hide my need for Vitamin D, while also keeping me warm while the chilly weather persists.
